Georgia welcomes U.S. focus on regional peace

U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance’s visit to Armenia and Azerbaijan was driven by President Donald Trump’s emphasis on establishing peace, and Georgia positively assesses that, Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili said.

According to Bochorishvili, there are ongoing contacts between Tbilisi and Washington, though she cautioned against creating excessive expectations, 1lurer.am reports.

The minister stated that Georgia remains open to consultations and expects a review of relations aimed at restoring a strategic partnership based on mutual respect and equality. She attributed existing problems to the administration of Joe Biden.

The Georgian foreign minister also addressed claims that the country could be sidelined in regional processes.

“It is impossible to underestimate Georgia’s role. No one excludes the existence of alternative routes, and there is nothing wrong with that, but it is unrealistic not to mention Georgia. Georgia is the only country with access to the sea, and that alone is sufficient,” Bochorishvili said.

Vance visited Armenia and Azerbaijan in February but did not travel to Georgia.
