In 2025, compared with 2017, funding for the science sector has increased nearly threefold — by 2.8 times or 180 percent, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in a Facebook video address.
He added that in 2021–2025 nearly 20 billion drams were allocated for the purchase of equipment and instruments for the scientific sector.
“Compared with 14.3 billion drams in 2017, the figure has effectively reached 42 billion drams in 2025. The funds were spent on salary increases through certification and on the acquisition of equipment and instruments.
For example, the salary of a laboratory assistant or engineer has risen from 67,000 drams to 138,000 drams, meaning it has doubled. The salary of a senior laboratory assistant increased from 76,000 to 179,000 drams — more than doubling. The salary of a junior researcher rose from 85,000 to 210,000 drams, also more than doubling.
The salary of a chief researcher increased from 138,000 to 552,000 drams — a fourfold rise. The salary of a head of a research group went from 129,000 to 410,000 drams — more than tripling. The salary of a head of a scientific division increased from 141,000 to 477,000 drams — also more than tripling.
A supercomputer was purchased for Yerevan State University using state budget funds, with about 3.7 billion drams spent from the budget,” he said.
The prime minister noted that these are among the measures implemented in the field of science that many people are simply unaware of.
