Yandex pledges technical fixes for taxi drivers

Yandex will introduce a number of technical solutions to address taxi drivers’ concerns, Mesrop Manukyan, a member of the Mother Armenia faction of the Yerevan Council of Elders, wrote on Facebook, presenting the outcomes of discussions held at the company’s office with drivers.

He stated that the government is also obliged to take drivers’ concerns into account and offer solutions of its own.

“Work will be carried out so that, if a driver wishes, he can register directly and work with Yandex, as a result of which he will not pay up to a 4 percent ‘intermediary’ commission.

Drivers and Yandex will jointly combat so-called ‘no-show’ passengers: drivers will rate them and send a letter to Yandex, after which such clients will be blocked.

Yandex will create a platform where drivers can present their issues, and meetings with company representatives will be held once a month.

By the end of the year, the unified service platform for contractors will be relaunched, where drivers will submit their questions and maintain communication with the company.

Regarding map inaccuracies, within two weeks Yandex will give drivers the opportunity to ‘indicate’ traffic problems on the map themselves and jointly correct errors.

For drivers fined for stopping in the second lane while waiting for a passenger, customers will receive an SMS urging them to hurry,” Manukyan said.

Commenting on the latest regulation, he expressed concern that it could lead to increased traffic congestion.

“On March 4, drivers will be received at the government, and officials are obliged to provide answers to the unresolved issues addressed both to Yandex and to the government.

As a result of drivers’ protests and public pressure, the government ‘learned’ that there are 100,000 drivers in the country whose rights are being violated and ignored. The government must take drivers into account and provide solutions,” Manukyan said.

Earlier, drivers had staged a protest to voice their concerns.
