Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan held a phone conversation on March 2 with Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, expressing condolences to the families of those killed in Iran and stressing the importance of reducing tensions and achieving a peaceful resolution.
The discussion focused on the situation in the Middle East, Armenia’s Foreign Ministry reported.
The interlocutors also addressed a number of humanitarian issues.
The Iranian Embassy in Armenia stated that Mirzoyan expressed Armenia’s readiness to provide any necessary humanitarian assistance under the current circumstances and voiced hope that the situation would be resolved through diplomatic means.
For his part, Iran’s foreign minister, referring to what he described as “illegal and unjustifiable aggression” against Iran, stressed that the country is in a state of large-scale war.
“He noted that the Islamic Republic of Iran, in response to this intolerable aggression, has targeted the occupied territories and American military bases in the region. Iran is prepared to continue self-defense for as long as necessary and to avenge the blood of its martyred leader,” the Iranian Embassy’s statement said.
On the morning of February 28, the United States and Israel carried out strikes against Iran. As a result, the country’s supreme spiritual leader, defense minister, chief of the general staff, commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and head of the defense council were killed. Iran responded with missile strikes against Israeli territory and U.S. military facilities in the Middle East.
