Government to support students in top 50 universities

The government has decided to support students admitted to the world’s top 50 universities through tuition reimbursement, Civil Contract faction MP Sisak Gabrielyan said at the March 3 Cabinet meeting.

According to him, discussions have focused on providing support of up to 10 million drams, 1lurer.am reports.

“I believe that is a fairly large amount. In some cases, it could cover up to 70–80 percent of tuition fees at one of those top 50 universities,” the MP said.

He urged prospective beneficiaries to follow upcoming government decisions in order to take advantage of the planned benefit.

Gabrielyan added that details regarding the eligibility criteria have not yet been published, but further information will be released soon.

Earlier, the government introduced a legislative initiative under which citizens admitted to one of the world’s top 50 universities and granted deferment from military service may, after completing their studies, be exempt from compulsory military service if they work in a field designated by the government in Armenia.
