The Republican Party of Armenia has announced the launch of political dialogue and consultations, expressing deep concern over what it describes as new manifestations of negative developments in the country.
The party has called on all opposition forces, civil society, and every citizen to “rise above narrow party and group interests and unite around the constitutional instrument of impeachment.”
According to the statement, ongoing unconstitutional attacks against the Armenian Apostolic Church, the continued deterioration of the geopolitical environment and what it called the inadequate behavior of Armenia’s current authorities in such conditions pose serious risks.
The party also pointed to the undisguised abuse of administrative resources ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections, as well as what it described as the systemic erosion of democratic institutions.
“These developments pose a direct threat to the sovereignty, stability and constitutional order of the Republic of Armenia,” the statement said.
“We clearly state that if the current trends continue, the parliamentary elections scheduled for June 2026 cannot be recognized as free, fair and democratic. They risk becoming another formality through which external actors may attempt to legitimize a regime that has demonstrated anti-popular and anti-state behavior.”
While stressing the importance of ensuring oversight of the upcoming electoral processes and securing high citizen participation, the party also reaffirmed that removing the current government through legal means is now a national necessity to prevent the final collapse of Armenian statehood.
The statement noted that the initiative was based on an appeal by the parliamentary opposition’s unified candidate for prime minister, former head of the Masis community Davit Hambardzumyan.
“We are open to all forces ready to jointly form a transitional government, including reaching agreement on a new unified candidate for prime minister who will restore democratic values, ensure genuinely free elections and halt the current non-sovereign foreign policy.”
“The future of Armenia cannot depend on a regime that tramples its own history and faith, abandons its citizens held in foreign captivity, undermines the country’s security and fears the expression of its own people’s will,” the statement said.
The party emphasized that the time for unity and decisive action is now.
Parliamentary elections in Armenia are scheduled for June 7, 2026.
