Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said that the new constitution should not contain a reference to the Declaration of Independence, stressing that the document carries a “logic of conflict.”
According to him, the Declaration of Independence is built on the logic of conflict, and “we cannot proceed on the basis of conflict logic and want to build an independent state,” Radar Armenia reported.
The prime minister also commented on why he says Catholicos Karekin II has assumed “leadership of war party.” According to him, the text of the liturgy contains a reference to the Republic of Artsakh.
“When we refer to Republic of Artsakh, that means conflict,” he said, adding that every such sentence amounts to a call for war.
Earlier, all Armenian officials had stated that Armenia’s new constitution was unrelated to demands put forward by Azerbaijan, which has called for “removing references to Declaration of Independence from constitution’s preamble,” describing them as claims against its territorial integrity.
