Claims about new Azerbaijani post inside Armenia false: Pashinyan

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan dismissed claims that Azerbaijani forces had established a new position inside Armenia’s territory.

There is a clear map and legally defined line showing that claims about a new Azerbaijani position inside Armenia do not correspond to reality, he said during a briefing, according to Aysor.am .

Arman Tatoyan, head of the Wings of Unity initiative, had earlier stated that Azerbaijani armed forces installed a new combat position inside Armenia near the village of Kut in the Gegharkunik region.

Pashinyan questioned whether there was any escalation.

“Is there a war and I am not aware of it? Is there some conflict, escalation, casualties or wounded that you are not telling me about? Where is there a war, where are the wounded, where are the shots, where are the victims, where is the attack, the explosion and so on — report it so we know where all this is happening,” he said, adding that there is peace in Armenia.

He also noted that the Defense Ministry had already provided detailed clarification.

“There is a clear border line and we know where the Republic of Armenia is and where the authority of Armenia’s state bodies lies,” the prime minister said, according to Armenpress.

At the same time, he acknowledged that there are certain issues related to territories that will be resolved during the border delimitation process, but stressed that the situation mentioned in the reports is unrelated to those issues.

Responding to a question about whether he intends to meet parents of missing soldiers protesting outside the government building, Pashinyan said he had already met them dozens of times.

“However, experience shows that we need to understand what problem we are solving or intend to solve through those meetings. If I see that communication with responsible bodies makes it necessary for me to meet them as well, I will do so. I have never avoided any meeting, but the purpose, agenda and effectiveness of the meeting must be understood,” the prime minister said.

Armenia’s Defense Ministry has denied claims that Azerbaijani armed forces established a new position inside Armenia’s sovereign territory in 2025, stating that the position “does not cross Armenia’s state border and is located on Azerbaijan’s territory.”

The ministry noted that the Armenian Armed Forces’ General Staff relies on a 1975 Soviet topographic map at a scale of 1:100,000, which has legal force and was approved by the Transcaucasian regional inspectorate of state geodetic supervision.

Addressing concerns about the village of Kut, the Defense Ministry’s spokesperson said that “there is no direct visibility between the Kut settlement and the mentioned position due to the presence of Mount Katar.”
