Members and supporters of the Wings of Unity political initiative held a protest near the government building, claiming that a new Azerbaijani incursion has taken place and that a new Azerbaijani position has appeared inside Armenia’s sovereign territory, Sputnik Armenia reported.
On March 4, former Human Rights Defender of Armenia and leader of the Wings of Unity initiative Arman Tatoyan held an urgent press conference stating that a new Azerbaijani position had appeared in the Gegharkunik region. Armenia’s Defense Ministry, however, denied the reports.
“For a long time these authorities have been making concessions under the name of peace — both from our state borders and from our sovereignty — claiming they are bringing peace,” one of the initiative’s members told reporters near the government building.
Participants of the protest submitted a letter and a number of materials to the government. A similar package of documents was also handed to the Defense Ministry on March 10, with a request for clarifications.
Representatives of the initiative stressed that they would continue to pursue the issue, saying it concerns Armenia’s sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and security, and that political affiliations should be secondary in this matter.
Armenia’s Defense Ministry has denied claims that Azerbaijani armed forces established a new position inside Armenia’s sovereign territory in 2025, stating that the position “does not cross Armenia’s state border and is located on Azerbaijan’s territory.”
The ministry said the Armenian Armed Forces’ General Staff relies on a 1975 Soviet topographic map at a scale of 1:100,000, which has legal force and was approved by the Transcaucasian regional inspectorate of state geodetic supervision.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has also said that there is a clear map and line showing that claims about a new Azerbaijani position inside Armenia do not correspond to reality.
