Yerevan allocates 8.2 billion drams for city programs

Several changes were made to Yerevan’s 2026 budget, according to a decision adopted at the March 12 meeting of the Yerevan Council of Elders.

Taking into account reductions in the equalization grant and in state duties related to civil status acts, the remaining balance amounted to 8.201 billion drams, which will be directed toward various programs in Yerevan, Armenpress reported.

Head of the Finance Department of the mayor’s office Kristine Avetisyan said that the revenue side of the budget will be adjusted based on Armenia’s 2026 state budget law.

“In the revenue section of the budget, it is proposed to reduce the equalization grant provided from the state budget by 154 million drams, increase subsidies by 160 million drams and direct that amount to compensation for alternative work service. The budget allocated for powers delegated to the mayor by the state will be reduced by 76 million drams, mainly due to exchange-rate changes affecting loan and grant programs, which will later be reflected in the expenditure side of Yerevan’s budget according to their program objectives,” Avetisyan said.

She added that due to legislative changes, state duties collected for civil status registration and related functions will now be transferred to Armenia’s state budget, which is why the corresponding revenue item is proposed to be reduced by 120 million drams.

It was also noted that at the beginning of the year the free balance of Yerevan’s community budget for 2026 actually amounted to 16.37 billion drams, of which 4.528 billion drams had already been distributed through the approved budget.

Taking into account the final results of the 2025 budget execution, the draft decision proposes adjusting the opening balance by 11.841 billion drams.

Of that amount, 76 million drams will be directed to fulfill obligations related to administrative expenditures that were not financed in the previous fiscal year. After covering those obligations, 3.28 billion drams will be used to finance projects launched in previous years.

The remaining 8.201 billion drams will be allocated to various development programs in Yerevan.
