Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Abisoghomonyan met in New York with Elizabeth Spehar, Assistant Secretary-General for Peacebuilding Support in the Office of the UN Secretary-General, to discuss further strengthening cooperation between Armenia and the United Nations.

During the meeting, Abisoghomonyan emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation particularly within initiatives related to peacekeeping, peacebuilding and development.

He also briefed his interlocutor on the latest developments in the region, stressing the need to further strengthen and institutionalize peace in the South Caucasus.

The sides discussed issues related to the maintenance of international peace and security, highlighting the role of peacekeeping missions in that context.

The deputy foreign minister presented Armenia’s active participation in peacekeeping missions carried out in different regions of the world under the frameworks of the United Nations and NATO.

He reaffirmed Armenia’s readiness to continue supporting international efforts in the field of peacekeeping.

The meeting also touched upon the situation in the Middle East, emphasizing the importance of resolving tensions and ensuring regional stability.

On February 28, Israel and the United States carried out airstrikes on Iran, during which Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed. Iran responded with strikes toward Israel and Gulf countries hosting U.S. military bases.
