Reacting to the decision to extend Karapetyan’s house arrest for one more month, the Strong Armenia party said it “will not stay idle.”
The party announced the start of a systematic campaign involving both domestic and international action.
“A decision has been made that shows how much Nikol Pashinyan fears Samvel Karapetyan.
We officially announce the launch of a coordinated campaign that includes both domestic and international action. Without such actions, Armenia’s international reputation will collapse, as the country is moving toward autocracy (personal rule).
Pashinyan is systematically destroying the legitimacy of Armenia as a democratic state.
We will not stay idle. In the coming days, we will announce our next concrete steps aimed at restoring justice.
In three months, Samvel Karapetyan will be Armenia’s next prime minister,” the statement said.
Earlier, Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Court completed the review of the preventive measure applied to businessman Samvel Karapetyan, extending his house arrest for another month. His lawyer Aram Vardevanyan told journalists about the decision outside the courthouse. At the same time, supporters of Karapetyan gathered near the court, and three of them were detained for failing to comply with a lawful police order. Large numbers of police were deployed in the area surrounding the court.
