The Armenia Alliance supports peace with Azerbaijan, but such a settlement must be based not on a “trust me” model, but on real guarantees, said the alliance’s prime ministerial candidate Robert Kocharyan.
He also stressed that the alliance is determined and aims to achieve victory, Panorama.am reports.
“We live in strange times, when we are told that our rich history is a burden that hinders us rather than a foundation for moving forward, that patriotism is an outdated concept harmful to the Armenian stomach, that identity is not our essence but a seasonal fashion that can change several times a year…
We say ‘No’ to these dangerous misconceptions. For the Armenia Alliance, our identity, our history and our patriotism are the driving forces behind building a modern and strong state.
Today, the world has descended into chaos, the global order has collapsed, and a new one has not yet taken shape. Most likely, the emerging order will for some time resemble the law of the jungle. In these conditions, ensuring security remains one of Armenia’s main priorities,” Kocharyan said.
He added that Armenia needs a strong army, strong leadership and powerful allies to jointly neutralize all threats. According to him, Armenia’s foreign policy should be predictable, clear and reject the idea of exploiting disagreements between major powers.
“It was precisely this approach that ensured Armenia’s calmest years during my presidency. Today I declare that I can guarantee an absolutely reliable format for our security model…
We support peace with Azerbaijan, but that peace must be based not on a ‘trust me’ model, but on real guarantees. This is especially important at a time when the rule of force has replaced the rule of law in the world.
Our goal is to become the most efficient and organized state in the South Caucasus. Only then can we become attractive to great powers, allies and partners. Only then will our rights be properly respected. Selling national interests for the sake of a photograph is humiliating and criminal,” Kocharyan said.
Parliamentary elections in Armenia are scheduled for June 7, 2026.
Participation has already been announced by Armenia’s second president Robert Kocharyan, former Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan with his newly created initiative Wings of Unity, former Yerevan mayor Hayk Marutyan with the New Force party, as well as the Armenian National Congress, whose prime ministerial candidate is Levon Zurabyan, and the Republic Party led by Aram Sargsyan.
Also officially declaring participation in the elections are Samvel Karapetyan’s Strong Armenia party, Gagik Tsarukyan, who has attempted to present his “Proposal to Armenia” program as a kind of “Noah’s Ark” for opposition forces, and the Armenian Vote party.
