Armenia revises aviation insurance rules

Aviation insurance requirements are being revised with the aim of aligning them with international standards. Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia Armen Simonian has presented, in the first reading, a draft law on setting minimum insurance requirements for liability toward passengers, flight and service personnel, baggage, cargo, and third parties for air carriers and aircraft operators.

In 2021, the EU and Armenia signed the Common Aviation Area Agreement, which established high requirements in aviation safety, security systems, and air traffic management. Under this document, Armenia committed to continuously harmonize its legislation with EU aviation regulations and standards, covering areas such as aviation safety, air traffic management, environmental protection, economic regulation, and competition, the National Assembly’s press service reported.

The draft proposes aligning the minimum liability insurance coverage with changes adopted in 2024 by the European Union and the International Civil Aviation Organization.

The initiative also defines liability measures, enforcement mechanisms, and procedures for dispute resolution.

The draft has received a positive conclusion from the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs.
