Armenia opens embassy in Muscat

A ceremonial opening of the Armenian embassy in Oman took place on March 18 in Muscat, attended by Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al-Busaidi.

Armenia’s national flag was raised in front of the embassy, the national anthems of both countries were played, and the official opening was marked with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, Armenia’s Foreign Ministry reported.

The event was attended by heads of several diplomatic missions accredited in Oman, as well as Armenian citizens residing in the country.

In his speech, Mirzoyan noted that in 1992 the Sultanate of Oman became the first Arab state to establish diplomatic relations with Armenia.

“The decision of the Armenian government to establish a resident embassy in Muscat not only reflects the effective and substantive cooperation formed between our two countries, but also clearly demonstrates the consistent deepening of our warm political dialogue. Beyond its symbolic significance, the opening of the embassy is also a practical step aimed at fully realizing the potential of our partnership and further strengthening cooperation in economic, educational, and cultural spheres.

Today, amid numerous painful developments in the region, we once again firmly reaffirm our belief that peace is the most important foundation for any development and prosperity. Oman — a country of peace, as described by my colleague and dear friend Minister Al-Busaidi — has shown the world that peace is built through strong political will and dedication to diplomacy. The significant efforts undertaken by the Sultanate of Oman in recent times to prevent escalation in the region are well known globally and admired by many.

For its part, Armenia has committed to building a peaceful future in the South Caucasus. After decades of hostility, infrastructure blockades, and economic hardship, the peoples of our region now have an opportunity to live in peace, prosper, and benefit from peaceful development and interregional cooperation. These shared values and mutual understanding also form a solid foundation for Armenia-Oman bilateral relations,” the Armenian foreign minister said.

As part of the official visit to Oman, on March 17 in Muscat, Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan also met with Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Al-Busaidi. The sides discussed a wide range of issues related to the development of cooperation between Armenia and Oman.
