Metropolitan Nikoloz Pachuashvili said Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II wishes to attend the funeral of Ilia II, but he is not permitted to leave the country.
He said the Patriarchate had sent invitations to clergy of all First Hierarchies around the world, aliq.ge writes.
“I cannot say who will come. We sent invitations to the clergy of all First Hierarchies, as rules and protocol require. It is not only Orthodox churches that are contacting us. For example, the Catholicos of All Armenians wants to come. They had very close relations, historic relations. However, Catholicos is not being allowed to leave the country. We sent a special invitation, and if he is allowed, he will come,” Pachuashvili told TV Pirveli.
Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II will be buried at Sioni on March 22. He died in hospital on the evening of March 17.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said Armenia will attend the funeral at the highest level.
