Armenia is a reliable partner for the European Union, said EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos during a meeting with Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan.
Kos highly praised the work of the Interior Ministry and Minister Sargsyan personally in the EU–Armenia visa liberalization process. She emphasized that Armenia is currently the only country with which the EU is actively engaged in dialogue in this direction.
Minister Sargsyan, in turn, highly assessed the developing Armenia–EU relations, noting that this is already the second visit of an EU commissioner to Armenia this month, reflecting the intensity and effectiveness of cooperation.
Addressing the visa liberalization process, Sargsyan noted that Armenia received the final progress assessment report in May and expressed confidence that both sides have recorded satisfactory results.
As the chief negotiator for the Armenian side, she presented tangible achievements since the launch of the dialogue and reaffirmed Armenia’s full commitment to implementing the action plan at a high level and in full.
The minister stressed the importance of ongoing efforts in migration and integrated border management, as well as ensuring document security. She also highlighted the significance of appointing a liaison officer to Europol for advancing cooperation in law enforcement.
Reference was also made to a study conducted by the International Republican Institute (IRI), according to which public trust in the police has significantly increased. The meeting also covered issues related to security, countering hybrid threats, and combating cyberattacks.
Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan and EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, who is in Yerevan, signed a financing agreement for 2025–2027 under the Resilience and Growth Plan. Grigoryan said they discussed in detail the progress of sectoral reforms in Armenia stemming from commitments under the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement.
