Armenia’s Defense Ministry continuously assesses all risks related to the country’s security, Defense Minister Suren Papikyan said, commenting on developments around Iran.
Responding to a journalist’s question about whether risks for Armenia have been evaluated amid the situation around Iran, the minister noted that the process is carried out through joint work of various state bodies, Armenpress reports.
“In the Republic of Armenia there are bodies such as the Security Council, the Foreign Intelligence Service, the National Security Service. The Defense Ministry is in its place — all risks are being assessed,” Papikyan said.
The minister also addressed criticism directed at the authorities, according to which officials engaged in internal political campaigning during the war in Iran.
“Those actions were aimed at conveying an appropriate message to the public. The campaign was intended to show society that there is peace in the Republic of Armenia,” he said, responding to a question about the government’s messaging during that period.
On February 28, Israel and the United States carried out airstrikes on Iran, killing Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran responded with strikes toward Israel and Gulf countries hosting U.S. military bases.
