If Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan knows when a war against Armenia will occur, how can he speak about an era of peace, said Kristine Vardanyan, an MP from the Hayastan faction, commenting on his recent statements.
“Don’t those two contradict each other? And if Nikol Pashinyan links a change of power in Armenia to the outbreak of war, how can he speak about an era of peace? This is an admission that the peace agenda he brought is not just false — it does not exist,” she said, according to Pastinfo.
In her assessment, Pashinyan is the first leader to “blackmail the Armenian public with war,” adding that “this is no longer being done by Azerbaijan’s president Ilham Aliyev — it is being done by Pashinyan.”
“Dear citizens, to make the answer clear, ask yourselves: is there any political force in Armenia that seeks to come to power and would want a war during its tenure? How is that possible?” she said.
Touching on regional developments, Vardanyan noted that the situation remains fluid and it is still unclear how events will unfold.
“Will the sun rise in the east and set in the west? Will Lake Sevan continue to shine or dry up? Will children ever laugh after Pashinyan, or will laughter disappear? I understand that for Civil Contract life ends with Pashinyan, but the life of the Armenian people neither began nor ends with him,” she said, adding that regional shifts raise questions about future power changes.
At a March 19 briefing, Pashinyan said that some political forces advocate revising the peace agenda, which could lead to inevitable war shortly after elections, most likely in autumn — “a new September war with severe consequences.” He had earlier stated that the Karabakh movement should not be continued.
