Appeal filed against ex-official’s acquittal ruling

Armenia’s Prosecutor General’s Office has appealed the acquittal verdict issued in the case of former head of the State Control Service Davit Sanasaryan, reports Factor.am .

Earlier, Yerevan Criminal Court Judge Davit Balayan acquitted Sanasaryan, who had been charged with abuse of official powers.

According to prosecutors, while serving as head of the State Control Service, Sanasaryan had broad authority, including direct management of the service, appointing and dismissing staff, imposing disciplinary sanctions, issuing assignments to conduct inspections at supervised entities, and requesting relevant information and documents. It is alleged that, acting in group interests, he used his official position against the interests of the service and failed to fulfill his duties.

Sanasaryan has repeatedly stated that he does not accept the charges and considers the case to be politically motivated retaliation.

Other defendants in the case included Samvel Adyan, acting head of the procurement oversight department of the State Control Service, Gevorg Khachatryan, chief specialist of the same department, and Taron Avetisyan, the de facto manager of Zorashen LLC. However, criminal prosecution against them was terminated during the trial due to the expiration of the statute of limitations, meaning on non-exonerating grounds.
