Rubinyan says opposition policy will lead to war

Armenian National Assembly Deputy Speaker Ruben Rubinyan has said that the policies proposed by the opposition would “100% lead to war,” rejecting accusations that the government is using war as a threat ahead of elections.

Speaking to journalists, Rubinyan addressed criticism that authorities are warning the public about war risks for political purposes.

“Let’s first analyze what a threat means. When someone says, ‘if you don’t do this, I will do something bad to you.’ When we say that if Armenia adopts the policies proposed by the opposition, it will inevitably lead to war, there is no element of threat here,” he said, according to Armenpress.

According to Rubinyan, the current likelihood of war is effectively zero because of the policies Armenia is pursuing.

“If the opposition comes to power and begins implementing the policies it advocates, that will lead to an obvious and 100 percent war,” he added.

The deputy speaker also recalled that the same groups had previously criticized the authorities for not openly discussing war risks.

“The same people used to ask, ‘why aren’t you presenting reality?’ Now they ask, ‘why are you saying it?’” he noted.

Rubinyan said the upcoming elections are not only about choosing political forces but also about choosing between their proposed policies.

He stressed that the ruling Civil Contract party supports maintaining the current peace policy, while opposition forces, in his view, propose revising it.

“If the components of the peace agreement, the Washington Declaration, the TRIPP arrangement, and the border delimitation regulations are revised, it will lead to war,” Rubinyan stated.
