Official fears arrests of Artsakh Armenians amid tensions

Artsakh State Minister Nzhdeh Iskandaryan said that during the pre-election period, Karabakh Armenians will undoubtedly be targeted, commenting on Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s statement that “the Karabakh elite fled, while the Armenians of Artsakh did not fight.”

“They will begin targeting individuals, and I do not rule out that arrests may occur,” he said, as reported by Pastinfo.

He noted that in the near future, it may be claimed that discussing the right of return could lead to war, and that due to efforts to ease social issues, Armenia has accumulated significant public debt.

“It was expected. For years, they themselves promoted the idea that ‘we should give up Artsakh to live peacefully,’” Iskandaryan said.

Pashinyan stated: “Those myths about fighting to the end and so on are false, nothing like that happened. At the right time I will decide and publish the documents. Nothing like that happened — they fled, escaped, and even during the 44-day war it was under a plan that this escape would be presented as a betrayal by the Armenian government, and under that cover they would carry out a change of power in Armenia.”
