Arsen Ghukasyan, the uncle of missing serviceman Sargis Ghukasyan, said that attempts have been made to portray their protest as politically directed, rejecting such claims.
He accused National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan of trying to shift the narrative around their protest, according to «Panorama.am».
“We were warned that a provocation was being prepared against our protest, but it never crossed my mind that the provocateur would be the speaker of parliament,” Ghukasyan said.
He also claimed that during the incident, Simonyan pushed activist Mikael Margaryan.
Ghukasyan insisted that no one is directing their actions and that they have a single demand — the publication of the parliamentary investigative commission’s report on the 44-day war.
“We have come with one demand: that everything must be made public,” he stated.
He emphasized that their movement is open to anyone supporting the demand, regardless of political affiliation, but rejected any attempt to use the families’ grief for political gain.
“If any political forces aim to use the pain of these parents for political dividends, they have no place next to me… But even if a member of the ruling party comes and says they support this demand, let them stand with us,” he said.
Ghukasyan also stressed the importance of restoring trust in institutions, particularly in the context of security concerns.
“God forbid, if there is another war and I go to fight, I should have no doubt about the people in charge — that they will not betray us at the last moment,” he said.
Addressing the classified status of the report, he added that secrecy raises suspicions.
“The confidentiality regime must be lifted, because it creates serious doubts that crimes committed by officials are being covered up, leading to irreversible losses,” Ghukasyan said.
Earlier, a criminal case was launched against activist Mikael Margaryan on hooliganism charges following the incident with Speaker Alen Simonyan.
