Water levels in the Debed River have increased due to heavy rainfall, Lori governor Aren Mkrtchyan said in a Facebook post.
He urged residents to stay away from riverside areas.
“Those citizens who have riverside gardens or livestock shelters are asked to suspend agricultural work today and over the next two days. Please remain vigilant,” he said.
Mkrtchyan also noted that an expanded coordination meeting was held with the participation of rescue services, police, community leaders, medical centers, and infrastructure companies.
“Work responsibilities have been clearly distributed, and we are operating 24/7,” he added.
According to the governor, large-scale riverbed cleaning works had already been carried out last year along the Debed River, involving dozens of heavy machinery units.
Earlier, Armenia’s emergency services reported incidents in Syunik due to heavy rainfall, where flooding caused damage to vehicles and affected animals in Kapan. Authorities had also warned in advance about expected precipitation on March 27–28, forecasting increased river discharge, particularly in the basins of the Voghji, Goris, Meghri, Arpa, Debed, and Aghstev rivers.
