Karapetyan outlines peace vision, criticizes authorities

Businessman, philanthropist, and leader of the Strong Armenia party, Samvel Karapetyan, stated that if elected prime minister, this coming September and every month thereafter will be peaceful. His statement was published on his official Facebook page.

He urged people not to allow “those who have proven incapable of protecting Armenia to once again threaten war.”

“Our nation needs unity and hope. It is regrettable how someone temporarily leading the country is sowing fear and division to retain power.

In June, he will lose, because people are tired of division and an atmosphere of fear. I promise that as prime minister, I will unite the country and make it strong—with a strong economy and strong peace.

I promise that with me as prime minister, the coming September and every month thereafter will be peaceful. We will do more: we will establish low taxes for business, create new jobs for people, and improve quality of life,” he said.

Karapetyan added that Armenia would have stronger diplomacy and stronger defense, ensuring peace through actions, not words.

“As for achieving lasting peace:

The outgoing government promised peace but brought three wars, losing all of them. Why should anyone trust them after so many failures?

The outgoing leadership divides our nation and wages a war of words against its own people. If they bring conflict within the country, why should anyone trust them with Armenia’s security?

Today Armenia has temporary peace. It is temporary because it is weak—without several guarantors, with weak borders and weak defense.

As prime minister, I will ensure strong and lasting peace. That peace will be based on strong diplomacy, several security guarantors, strong defense—with strong borders, 10,000 drones, protected skies, and a modernized, professionally equipped army.

Strong peace is also based on a strong economy—with new factories, 300,000 new jobs, and new opportunities for business and agriculture. In today’s world, a strong economy strengthens diplomacy and defense.

The outgoing leadership is trying to convince you that this is impossible, and that the only path to peace is weakness and submission to our adversaries’ demands. They try to assure us that if we abandon our Armenian symbols and legitimate interests, we will have peace. This is a big lie.

Our national hero Garegin Nzhdeh said: ‘To be a coward, remain a coward, and at the same time dream of an independent homeland—is that not ridiculous? Is it not ridiculous to be a sheep and complain about the wolf? If you became a sheep, do not be surprised by the wolf’s arrival. Peace and independence belong to the brave, because the brave walk God’s path.’ These words live in Armenians’ hearts. It is regrettable to see the authorities acting contrary to these words. They have lost peace three times and still refuse to learn from their mistakes.

I call on all Armenians not to be afraid. Do not allow the same people, who have already proven incapable of defending Armenia, to threaten you with war again.

I promise you one thing: together we will build lasting and strong peace with dignity,” Karapetyan’s message states.

Earlier, Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that if the Civil Contract party fails to secure a majority in elections, there will be war in September.
