Armenia’s National Assembly has adopted, in second reading and in full, a draft law requiring mandatory labeling of content created using artificial intelligence during broadcasts.
The measure passed with 67 votes in favor, none against, and six abstentions, Armenpress reports.
Oversight and monitoring of the law’s implementation will be carried out by the Television and Radio Commission, while violations will result in a fine of 300,000 drams.
Earlier, at an extraordinary session of parliament, the draft amendments to the Law on Audiovisual Media were presented by Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan. The minister stated that the main goal of the proposed legislative changes is to ensure the identification of synthetic or AI-generated television content, making it clearer for audiences.
“The government proposes several amendments to the Law on Audiovisual Media. The core idea is that, following the law’s adoption, we expect audiovisual media service providers to mandatorily label any television content generated by artificial intelligence or other digital technological solutions, including synthetic content, when broadcasting,” Hayrapetyan said.
He also clarified that this refers to appropriate labeling that will make it clearly visible that the content has been created using artificial intelligence.
