Armenia, Iran discuss Kajaran–Agarak road progress

Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Kristine Ghalechyan and Iran’s Ambassador to Armenia Khalil Shirgholami discussed the progress of construction works on the Kajaran–Agarak road section.

The deputy minister emphasized the importance of implementing joint programs in the field of infrastructure development. During the discussions, the parties also reviewed ongoing projects in the sector.

Ghalechyan noted that thanks to the efforts made within the framework of the project and the active involvement of the Iranian company, it will be possible to complete the works within the planned deadline of 2027.

The 32-kilometer Kajaran–Agarak section envisages the construction of 17 bridges, two tunnels with a total length of about 900 meters, and five interchanges.

Construction of the North–South strategic highway began in 2012 but has not yet been completed. Once finished, the new route is expected to connect the country’s north and south, significantly reducing travel time along the current 550-kilometer road and lowering transportation costs.
