Armenia to receive bulk of seized US asset funds

Most of the proceeds from the sale of a Los Angeles mansion belonging to the family of former Armenian Finance Minister Gagik Khachatryan will be returned to Armenia. The property had been recognized by a U.S. court as having a criminal origin.

The process and timeline of transferring the funds were discussed by Armenia’s Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan and U.S. Chargé d’Affaires David Allen.

Vardapetyan noted that the U.S. Embassy is a reliable partner of Armenia’s Prosecutor’s Office, pointing to frequent and effective meetings between the sides in 2025.

The meeting also addressed the results of cooperation between Armenia’s Prosecutor’s Office and U.S. competent authorities within the framework of an ongoing criminal case in Armenia.

The U.S. Chargé d’Affaires also positively assessed the cooperation and discussed with the Prosecutor General several issues of mutual interest, including legal assistance in criminal proceedings, extradition processes, and other related matters.
