A project to create a recreational zone in the Hrazdan Gorge was discussed at a government meeting of Armenia, presented by Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan.
He noted that the project will be implemented along a section of about 5.5 kilometers from the beginning of the gorge, in the Arabkir administrative district, Aysor.am reports.
“The program includes a comprehensive improvement plan for the gorge, new landscape and architectural solutions.
We have conducted an in-depth analysis of the entire gorge, studied its flora and fauna, as well as culturally significant areas. We have clearly defined the boundaries of the gorge and are awaiting legislative changes from the Ministry of Environment, after which the Yerevan Council of Elders will designate the entire gorge as a specially protected community area,” he said.
It was decided to allocate 172 million drams from the state budget for the construction of the recreational zone in the gorge. The project was presented during the session by Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khudatyan, Panorama.am reports.
“The proposal is to reallocate 172 million drams from the budget and provide it to the Yerevan Municipality for the construction of a recreational zone in the Hrazdan Gorge,” he said.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that three similar projects are planned: the discussed initiative, as well as the creation of urban forest parks in Dalma Gardens and Nork-Marash.
Avinyan added that over the past four years, 60 hectares of new green areas with irrigation systems have already been created, which, according to him, exceeds the same indicator of the previous 22 years.
