Kocharyan says Armenia’s EAEU stance offends Russia

Former President Robert Kocharyan said that the wording Armenia uses regarding the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is offensive to Russia. He made the remarks during the “Big Politics” podcast, according to Auroranews.am.

He noted that efforts should be made to explain to the public what kind of consequences such positions could entail.

“In general, the wording Armenia uses is offensive to Russia. It is offensive in the following way: we say we are moving toward Europe, which has no realistic basis, but we say we are going, and when it becomes convenient for us, we will make that decision. We understand that the EAEU and the European Union are incompatible, we understand that at some point we will leave, but you stay there, and when we decide, then we will leave.

I would suggest that people try to imagine the following model: you are the owner of a small business, and your business depends 90% on cooperation with a large company that is about 50 times bigger than you. And you constantly tell that large company: you know, I am working with you for now, but as soon as I find a more suitable partner, I will leave you. And you keep saying this publicly all the time. What will that large company do? One day it will say: who do you think you are? It will break ties with you itself and say: go find whoever you want. I am not your backup option.

Even from a purely human relationship perspective, this is offensive. Even if you think that way, you should not talk about it at every step,” he said.
