U.S. says TRIPP stays priority

The Trump administration remains committed to turning the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project into reality, a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State said, Armenpress reports.

“TRIPP remains one of U.S. priorities because it has the potential to promote peace and prosperity in the South Caucasus and beyond. The Trump administration remains committed to making TRIPP a reality,” the State Department spokesperson said.

The spokesperson also recalled that the initiative envisions the creation of a multimodal transport hub that will ensure a connection between mainland Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan while preserving Armenia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and jurisdiction, and also ensuring reciprocal benefits for Armenia.

“TRIPP will provide unhindered international and domestic connectivity in the region, expanding opportunities for economic growth and rising prosperity,” the spokesperson said.

According to the spokesperson, Azerbaijan will be able to establish a direct connection with Nakhchivan, while Armenia will benefit from improved regional communications, making it possible to unlock the South Caucasus’s economic potential while preserving the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and jurisdiction.

The spokesperson also said Armenia is working with the United States and mutually agreed third parties to bring the TRIPP initiative to life.

“To support the launch of TRIPP and related arrangements, the United States has undertaken an initial commitment of $145 million, which will unlock regional stability and economic growth. These funds will support investments in trade, infrastructure and border security in Armenia and will increase regional connectivity,” the State Department spokesperson said.

The spokesperson added that on January 13, 2026, the United States and Armenia jointly announced the publication of the implementation framework for TRIPP.

“This document lays out a clear path for TRIPP’s launch. Reflecting the principles approved on August 8, 2025, it also underscores the importance of sovereignty, jurisdiction, territorial integrity and reciprocity for TRIPP’s overall success. As U.S. President Donald Trump has said, TRIPP will pass through ‘some of most economically important places in world’ and ‘will boost commercial activity across other side of Caspian Sea, helping Central Asian countries.’ TRIPP’s ultimate goals are to strengthen the prosperity and security of Armenia and Azerbaijan, expand U.S. commercial opportunities by developing regional trade and connections, and create new transit links from Central Asia and the Caspian region to Europe,” the State Department spokesperson concluded.

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed in Washington the document on joint Armenia-U.S. work within the framework of the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” program, TRIPP.

The published document on TRIPP’s implementation describes the procedure for launching the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” initiative. This framework does not create and is not intended to create legal commitments or obligations for Armenia or the United States.
