The event was organized on the 40th day after Khamenei’s killing by the United States and Israel, as part of official efforts to promote national unity among religious communities.
State television broadcast footage from central Tehran, where crowds gathered to mourn the former Supreme Leader.
Ali Khamenei, Iran’s former Supreme Leader, was killed on February 28, after which a 40-day mourning period was declared in the country. For about a week, Iran was governed by an interim leadership council, after which Mojtaba Khamenei became the country’s leader.
