Armenia’s Minister of Environment Hambardzum Matevosyan will pay a working visit to Oslo from April 13 to 15 at the invitation of Norway’s Minister of Climate and Environment Andreas Bjelland Eriksen.
During the visit, high-level ministerial meetings and expert discussions are planned, focusing on preparations for the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity.
The main goal of the visit is to strengthen cooperation between Armenia and the Kingdom of Norway in biodiversity conservation, as well as to review the implementation of a memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries.
The memorandum was signed on September 25, 2025, in New York, aiming to promote bilateral cooperation in environmental protection.
The agenda also includes discussions on urban climate action, climate adaptation, biodiversity governance at national and global levels, climate diplomacy, digital sequence information (DSI) on genetic resources, and biodiversity financing.
Particular attention will be given to exploring synergies between the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Convention on Biological Diversity.
The visit aims to enhance bilateral political dialogue and develop practical proposals that could be presented at COP17 as a joint contribution by Armenia and Norway to international environmental processes.
The 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) will be held from October 18 to 30, 2026, at the Meridian Expo Center in Yerevan.
