Mothers stage sit-in demanding Minasyan’s release

A group of mothers has launched a sit-in protest in front of the Prosecutor General’s Office, demanding the release of Davit Minasyan, who was detained in connection with the incident at St. Anna Church.

One of the participants, Marianna Zargaryan, told journalists that she has a son of the same age as Davit and came to support him, Aysor.am reports.

“I learned about the sit-in from Facebook. I was supposed to be at that church on Palm Sunday, but plans changed and we went to another church. Later, I found out such a provocation had occurred,” she said.

Another parent noted that the protest is currently planned to last one week, taking place daily from 11:00 to 20:00.

“I am starting the sit-in alone and call on all mothers who care about Davit Minasyan’s life to join. Even a few minutes of support will be enough,” she said.

She added that they are demanding that the Prosecutor General ensure an impartial investigation and allow Davit to receive treatment at home.

“Davit’s condition is currently critical,” she said.

The body conducting the proceedings in Minasyan’s case has announced the completion of the preliminary investigation. The prosecutor has refused to change the pre-trial detention measure for the 18-year-old.

Following the March 29 incident at St. Anna Church, 18-year-old twin brothers Davit and Mikayel Minasyan, along with public figure Gevorg Gevorgyan, were detained on suspicion of hooliganism and interference with the lawful activities of an official.

Subsequently, searches were carried out, and on March 31 it was announced that criminal proceedings had been initiated. Mikayel Minasyan and Gevorg Gevorgyan were released under travel restrictions and a bail of 5 million drams, while Davit Minasyan was remanded in custody for two months on April 1.

On April 3, he was transferred to Abovyan penitentiary to continue his education, but his health later deteriorated, leading to his transfer first to Abovyan Medical Center and then to Nairi Medical Center.
