Davit Minasyan released from Armavir prison

The detention of 18-year-old Davit Minasyan has been lifted by the supervising prosecutor's decision, and he has been released from the Armavir penitentiary institution. His lawyer, Lusine Martirosyan, announced this on her Facebook page.

The Prosecutor General’s Office stated that a ban on absence has been imposed, Factor.am reports.

“The prosecutor has received the criminal case from the investigative body—the Investigative Committee—for the purpose of approving the indictment and sending it to court. By decision of the supervising prosecutor, the detention measure previously chosen by the court has been revoked, and a ban on absence has been applied. Today, the prosecutor submitted the case materials, along with the approved indictment, to the competent court,” the Prosecutor’s Office said.

Lawyer Ruben Melikyan said in a Facebook livestream that Davit Minasyan’s release was due to strong public response and intolerance toward injustice.

He noted that Davit Minasyan had already spent 16 days in detention.

“By decision of the prosecutor, Davit Minasyan is being released. I should note that this is the same prosecutor who, two or three days ago, rejected our defense team’s request to release Davit. Now, on his own initiative, he decided to release him. It was the right decision, I have nothing to add, but I will repeat that I consider this the result of significant public reaction,” the lawyer said.

On March 29, following an incident at St. Anna Church, 18-year-old twin brothers Davit and Mikael Minasyan, as well as public figure Gevorg Gevorgyan, were detained on suspicion of hooliganism and interference with the lawful activities of an official.

Subsequently, searches were conducted, and on March 31, it became known that criminal proceedings had been initiated against them. A ban on absence and bail of 5 million drams were imposed on Mikael Minasyan and Gevorg Gevorgyan, while Davit Minasyan was remanded in custody for two months on April 1.

On April 3, he was transferred to Abovyan penitentiary to continue his education, but later his health deteriorated, and he was first taken to Abovyan Medical Center, then to Nairi Medical Center, and afterward returned to the penitentiary.
