Detentions of members of the Strong Armenia party are aimed at disrupting the party’s activities, said Mamikon Aslanyan, a candidate on the party’s list, in comments to journalists.
“Consider all this as a pre-election show program,” he said, according to Panorama.am .
According to Aslanyan, the developments reflect broader fears within the authorities and a sense of inevitable defeat.
He also stated that, based on recent statements by the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia, a large portion of Armenia’s population appears to be implicated in corruption-related processes.
“Let’s not be guided by the Anti-Corruption Committee’s pre-election press releases, but rather by what is happening in real life—what is taking place around us,” he said.
Earlier, the Anti-Corruption Committee reported that 14 individuals had been detained within a criminal case on charges of giving and receiving electoral bribes.
