Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan and Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova, during a meeting in Istanbul on the sidelines of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, emphasized the importance of continuing constructive parliamentary dialogue to further strengthen trust between the two nations.
During the meeting, the sides positively noted recent developments in the normalization of relations between the two countries, including steps aimed at strengthening peace and stability, as well as the establishment and expansion of trade ties.
They also underscored the significance of the Inter-Parliamentary Union as an important platform for inter-parliamentary cooperation. In this context, the parties expressed high appreciation and gratitude to Inter-Parliamentary Union Secretary General Martin Chungong for his personal contribution to fostering dialogue between the Armenian and Azerbaijani parliamentary leaders.
The speakers positively assessed contacts between parliamentary delegations within international organizations, which began after their meeting in Geneva in October 2025, and agreed to continue this cooperation.
The previous meeting between Simonyan and Gafarova took place in Geneva in October 2025, in the presence of Martin Chungong.
