Strong Armenia leader vows imminent change

Changes will happen, and we will soon have a strong Armenia, said Strong Armenia party leader Samvel Karapetyan during a court hearing, Aysor.am reports.

“Lawyer Vardevanyan presented all the unlawfulness that exists in these charges, so I have nothing more to add on that. I only want to state that all the injustices in our legal system, I am confident, are directed against me and all members of our team, in order to try to stop our people’s dream of having a strong Armenia. But I assure you, they will not succeed — everything is moving forward. Changes will happen, and we will soon have a strong Armenia,” he said.

The court is currently reviewing the issue of Karapetyan’s preventive measure.

His lawyer Aram Vardevanyan has requested the lifting of house arrest, also proposing to increase the already set bail. According to the defense, Karapetyan is ready to pay an additional 400 million drams on top of the existing 4 billion drams, noting that no violations have been recorded over the past ten months.

At the same time, Karapetyan’s supporters held a protest outside the court, demanding his release.

Earlier, 17 people were detained during a march held ahead of the hearing. Karapetyan, who is under house arrest, was brought to court by police vehicle and greeted by supporters with applause and chants of his name. He did not answer journalists’ questions, stating that he currently does not have the right to speak.
