Changes and additions have been made to the admissions procedure for bachelor’s, continuous, and integrated programs at both state and non-state universities in Armenia. The government has approved the draft decision.
The revisions are driven by the need to regulate the admissions process in line with updates to the general education state standard, new qualification requirements for secondary school graduates, and newly developed subject curricula, study plans, textbooks, and other educational materials, Factor.am reports.
During entrance exams, reasonable accommodations are envisaged for applicants with special educational needs.
A new provision states that within ten days after the application deadlines for the respective stages, such applicants or their legal representatives must apply to the Assessment and Testing Center, submitting required documents, including medical certificates. This allows appropriate exam conditions to be ensured, including alternative means of oral and written communication, use of individual technical devices, involvement of sign language interpreters, and other support.
It has also been established that no significant changes will be made to the admissions procedure until the 2029–2030 academic year.
In the 2026–2027, 2027–2028, and 2028–2029 academic years, admissions will continue to be conducted through the Araratian Baccalaureate exams, as in previous years. Only from the 2029–2030 academic year, in accordance with the Law “On Higher Education and Science,” will the organization of admissions competitions be delegated to universities.
The use of the term “question banks” has also been revised. These will no longer be published or used as sources for developing test items for entrance exams.
Instead, to ensure alignment of exam materials with updated subject curricula and taught content, the broader concept of “other educational materials related to the learning process” is introduced. This includes approved modules used in general education institutions as primary learning resources.
The deadline for the first stage of admissions has also been clarified. Applicants who have submitted applications may make changes or withdraw them until December 25. The first stage will run from December 15 to 25. Additional technical adjustments have also been made.
The adopted decision aligns with the Armenia 2050 transformation strategy, the state education development program until 2030, and the higher education reform priorities set by the government’s 2021–2026 program.
