Mirzoyan, Prevot discuss bilateral, regional issues

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan held a phone conversation with Belgium’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Development Cooperation, Maxime Prevot, discussing bilateral and regional issues.

The foreign ministers of Armenia and Belgium expressed satisfaction with the active political dialogue established between the two countries, emphasizing the importance of further deepening cooperation both bilaterally and within the European Union framework.

They also discussed agenda items for the upcoming European Political Community and Armenia–EU summits to be held in Yerevan in May, including issues related to strengthening democratic resilience and expanding economic ties.

Addressing regional developments, the ministers exchanged views on the new realities formed in the South Caucasus.

In the context of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, they underscored the importance of advancing connectivity and infrastructure development projects.

Ararat Mirzoyan and Maxime Prevot also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.

Belgium’s Chamber of Representatives has adopted a resolution supporting the right of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh to a safe return under international guarantees. The document also calls for the creation of an international mechanism, the withdrawal of Azerbaijani forces from Armenia’s territory to positions held as of May 12, 2021, and addressing the issue of Armenian prisoners of war and civilians held in Baku. Azerbaijan has summoned Belgium’s ambassador to protest the resolutions adopted by the parliament regarding Nagorno-Karabakh.
