Macron to pay official visit to Armenia in May

French President Emmanuel Macron will pay a state visit to Armenia in May. Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Khachatryan and France’s Ambassador to Armenia Olivier Decottignies have discussed the details of the upcoming visit.

The deputy prime minister particularly emphasized the importance of the European Political Community summit on May 4, as well as Macron’s state visit to Armenia on May 5.

Ahead of the visit, the parties reviewed a number of key items on the bilateral agenda, including drinking water supply and drainage systems, the involvement of the French side in the construction of the Sisian–Kajaran section of the North–South transport corridor, educational cooperation, and other strategically significant programs and initiatives.

Emmanuel Macron last visited Armenia in October 2018 to attend the Francophonie Summit held in Yerevan. In subsequent years, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan repeatedly invited Macron to visit Armenia, but the visit had not taken place until now.
