Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said meetings between representatives of Armenia and Azerbaijan are contributing to the normalization of the situation.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs, Aliyev outlined developments in the ongoing peace process between the two countries, according to APA.
He noted that meetings between civil society representatives and media from both sides are helping improve the situation.
Aliyev also stated that, in his view, de facto peace has already been established between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He recalled that in August 2025, the leaders of the two countries were invited to the White House, where a joint declaration was signed after being initialed by the foreign ministers.
The Azerbaijani president added that trade relations with Armenia have begun, including exports of petroleum products from Azerbaijan to Armenia.
On August 8, 2025, a trilateral meeting was held at the White House between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, during which a joint declaration on the outcomes of the talks in Washington was signed.
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, in the presence of the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and the U.S., initialed the agreement “On Peace and Establishment of Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
