Armenia, EU to launch new investment initiative

Armenia will present a new joint initiative with the European Union aimed at opening a new window in investment policy, Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan said in an interview with Public Television.

He noted that on May 4–5, Yerevan will host not only the European Political Community summit but also a separate Armenia–EU format meeting. The summit will be co-chaired by Armenia’s prime minister, European Council President António Costa, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Auroranews.am reported.

According to him, this will be the first such bilateral summit, during which the full agenda of Armenia–EU cooperation will be discussed. The talks will include visa liberalization issues, as well as EU assistance to Armenia.

The deputy minister also said that, taking into account developments in the region over the past year, important discussions are planned on connectivity, along with steps to promote investment.

“We will have substantial discussions on connectivity issues and consider how we can stimulate investments in Armenia. Together with the EU, we will come forward with a new initiative that will open a new window in investment policy. The European Union will support the private sector and encourage private investment in Armenia through various instruments,” Kostanyan said.

He also informed that following the high-level meetings, the annual Yerevan Dialogue diplomatic forum will be held in the capital, with several European officials extending their stay to participate.

During French President Emmanuel Macron’s upcoming state visit to Armenia, a strategic partnership document is expected to be signed. On May 4, he will attend the European Political Community summit in Yerevan, followed by official state visit events the next day.
