Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Committee has confirmed the detention of Artur Avanesyan, a member of the Strong Armenia party, Armenpress reports.
No further details have been disclosed. The committee stated that additional information will be provided if necessary.
Avanesyan is widely known as Kandaz and has around 30 years of combat service in the Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army.
According to Sputnik Armenia, he is involved in a case related to alleged violations in electoral processes.
The development was also addressed by Narek Karapetyan, a member of the political council of the Strong Armenia party.
“In the morning, they detained war hero Kandaz. I wish the Anti-Corruption Committee a calm interrogation. Those fulfilling the dreams of Azerbaijanis must be replaced by those fulfilling the dreams of Armenians,” he wrote.
Parliamentary elections in Armenia are scheduled for June 7, 2026.
