Cyprus backs deeper Armenia-EU cooperation

Cyprus fully supports further deepening cooperation between the European Union and Armenia, said Marilena Raouna, Deputy Minister for European Affairs of Cyprus, during a European Parliament plenary discussion on strengthening Armenia’s democratic resilience.

“Cooperation is based on our shared values and a vision of a stable, democratic, and prosperous Armenia, as well as a stable South Caucasus,” she said, Armenpress reported, citing CyprusMail.

Raouna stressed that democratic resilience is a core commitment of the EU toward both its member states and its partners.

She noted that relations between the EU and Armenia have made significant progress over the past two years, following a European Council call to strengthen ties across all sectors and lay the groundwork for new cooperation.

“The first EU–Armenia summit will take place in Yerevan next week,” Raouna said, emphasizing that the event sends a strong message about Armenia’s importance as a regional partner of the EU.

She also announced that Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides will meet Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during the summit.

Raouna highlighted the importance of the EU–Armenia strategic agenda, describing it as a clear roadmap for cooperation.

She also pointed to around €270 million in EU investments under the “Resilience and Growth” plan, which have helped strengthen Armenia’s resilience to external pressures.

Warning about disinformation campaigns undermining trust in democratic institutions, Raouna said the parliamentary elections scheduled for June 7 in Armenia could be a decisive moment for the country.

“In an increasingly complex geopolitical environment, strengthening partnerships with countries that share the same values remains a key priority,” she added.

On December 2, 2025, in Brussels, Armenia and the EU signed a strategic partnership agenda following the sixth meeting of the EU–Armenia Partnership Council. The document was signed by Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and EU High Representative Kaja Kallas.
