Karapetyan pledges decisive win

Strong Armenia party chairman and businessman Samvel Karapetyan said his political force is heading toward an “absolute victory,” referring to statements by other opposition leaders Robert Kocharyan and Gagik Tsarukyan, Panorama.am reports.

“We are going for an absolute victory. As of today, we have two clear positions and are working within those boundaries. We are heading for an absolute victory, keeping in mind the statements of Robert Kocharyan and Gagik Tsarukyan,” he said.

“I am the person who returned key strategic assets to Armenia from Russia. The Electric Networks, so favored by Pashinyan, I brought back to Armenia; the Hrazdan Thermal Power Plant I also returned, as well as the Sevan-Hrazdan Cascade. Now I myself am returning to Armenia,” Karapetyan stated.

He noted that he has no concerns about potential pressure from Russia and said that even in such a case he would not change his position.

Responding to a question about confidence in winning the upcoming elections, Karapetyan said: “Our confidence comes from our people, from all polls, and from Pashinyan’s extremely low rating. It has turned out that even while being under arrest, it is easy to defeat Pashinyan.”

Karapetyan also reacted to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s remarks about a possible war in September, Sputnik Armenia reports.

“There will be no war, because in September there will be no Nikol Pashinyan either. Two people threaten Armenia — Pashinyan and Aliyev,” Karapetyan said in an interview with television journalists.

He also referred to former Nagorno-Karabakh state minister, businessman and philanthropist Ruben Vardanyan, who was sentenced to life imprisonment during an ongoing trial in Azerbaijan, noting that he is a close friend.

“Ruben Vardanyan and I have serious common ground. There is no need to worry — justice will prevail in Armenia very soon. By forming a government, we will do everything to ensure that all our patriotic compatriots return to Armenia,” Karapetyan said.

The politician also stressed that he believes the return of prisoners can be ensured through his political force by using significant international leverage.

Parliamentary elections in Armenia are scheduled for June 7, 2026.
