A large volume of liquefied petroleum gas will enter Armenia on May 2, substantially reducing prices, Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan said.
Several trucks already arrived on April 28, more came yesterday, dozens are expected today, and dozens more will enter Armenia tomorrow, the minister said, Sputnik Armenia reports.
According to him, the LPG shortage was caused by two main factors: the situation related to Iran and problems at the Upper Lars checkpoint. It was noted that Lars has already reopened.
Asked why the previously announced plan to import gas by rail through Azerbaijan was not implemented, the minister explained that South Caucasus Railway must make major investments.
“South Caucasus Railway had to make, and is making, huge investments so that liquefied petroleum gas can reach Armenia by rail. Reaching an agreement that LPG can come to Armenia by rail is one thing; then making huge investments to actually bring the LPG is another,” he said.
Earlier, the Economy Ministry said difficulties in the LPG market were mainly due to logistical problems and urged citizens to avoid panic buying and rely on official information.
