The leader of the Strong Armenia party and its candidate for prime minister in the upcoming parliamentary elections, Samvel Karapetyan, said that even if all his teammates are arrested, his supporters still outnumber the authorities.
Responding to a question about who he would run with if all his associates were detained, Karapetyan said: “In the end, they (referring to the Armenian authorities) will even go and arrest their own teammates. They are fewer than us. Therefore, we will win in any case,” Sputnik Armenia reports.
Karapetyan made the remarks while arriving at court under police escort.
Asked whether he faces problems in Russia or France or is at risk of bankruptcy, he responded with laughter, adding that such claims are a product of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s imagination and should not be taken seriously.
Currently, three members of the Strong Armenia party’s Yerevan office are under arrest, while five members of its Artashat office are under house arrest. According to law enforcement, these individuals attempted to distribute disguised election bribes to secure votes in their favor.
