The European Union has allocated €8.55 million to support education reforms in Armenia, with authorities reporting tangible and systemic progress in general education.
The results were presented jointly by Armenia’s Education Ministry and the EU Delegation under the “EU Support to Education in Armenia” financing agreement.
A key focus of the program has been the development of educational infrastructure. Construction and renovation works have already been completed in 13 schools in Kapan and Goris communities in the Syunik region, achieving more than half of the targets set for 2025.
Significant progress has also been recorded in improving school governance. Around 50% of public schools have transitioned to a new management system, while 346 principals have been appointed based on recommendations from professional commissions, ensuring transparency and high standards.
To improve the efficiency of multi-grade classes, a new funding mechanism has been introduced, fully meeting the planned targets in this area.
As part of efforts to develop STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education, 231 schools in Ararat, Kotayk, and Gegharkunik regions have been equipped with modern laboratories, meeting program benchmarks.
At the same time, about 9,000 teachers have been trained in line with new education standards, achieving full implementation of targets in this direction.
Career guidance programs have been introduced in all schools across Armenia, covering grades 8–11 and helping students make informed decisions about their future education.
Within the modernization of educational content, about 27% of school projects have focused on green economy and climate change topics, meeting established targets.
A new assessment system has also been introduced in schools nationwide, ensuring full implementation of planned outcomes. Based on the evaluation of these indicators, the EU allocated €8.55 million for education reforms.
Armenia’s Education Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to continuing reforms aimed at ensuring quality, inclusive, and modern education for all citizens, highlighting the importance of close and effective cooperation with the EU Delegation in Armenia.
