Representatives of civil society organizations from Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, at the initiative of the Harmony NGO of Shushi, held a protest near the EU Delegation in Armenia.
They submitted a letter addressed to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU commissioners, signed by 23 organizations. In the letter, activists condemned what they described as ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh following September 19, 2023, as well as what they called “the indifference of the international community,” Factor.am reports.
The authors of the statement argued that the depopulation of Nagorno-Karabakh was the result of a political conspiracy carried out with gross human rights violations.
Protest participants called on the European Union to demonstrate political will, remain committed to universal human rights values, and take steps toward implementing rulings of the International Court of Justice and restoring justice.
They also emphasized that, in their view, speaking about peace in the region without restoring the rights of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh does not reflect reality and conceals what has happened.
On September 19, 2023, Azerbaijan launched a large-scale offensive in Nagorno-Karabakh, leading to casualties and the displacement of more than 100,000 Armenians.
